| West Monroe wins 6th State Championship |
 |
After nine championship games in the last 10 seasons, The Rebels have their sixth state championship.
The Rebel defense was a major factor, in holding Acadiana at bay until the offense could gather itself. "The defense was the key to this whole season, no question about it," West Monroe coach Don Shows said. "Anytime you have a great defense like that, you are going to win a lot of ballgames."
The Rams only score came in the first half, when QB Johnathan Morvant connected with Javinas Faulk for a 61-yard touchdown pass.
In the second half, Acadiana's R.J. Romero intercepted a West Monroe pass for 1st and ten on the West Monroe 37. They drove the ball down to the Rebels' 5-yard line before Movant was intercepted by DB Les Aulds.
Aulds intercepted the pass in the end zone as Morvant was just trying to throw the ball out of bounds.
On the Rams next possession, they took a punt on the Rebels' 41 yard line.
This drive ended in a Ram field goal attempt that was blocked by DB Scott Love.
I know That TB Frank Goodin had a great game, rushing 170 yards on 25 plays, but to me DB Scott Love was the MVP in my book. He intercepted 3 passes, blocked a field goal attempt and played a whale of a game. The whole defensive squad played that way. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate Frank. Acadiana's #84 and #2 keyed on Frank every play, and Frank prevailed. West Monroe fumbled to give Acadiana the ball at the Rebels' 37 again. The defense held the Rams again forcing a punt.
The offense started to come together after that, and drove 80-yards for another Frank Goodin TD. That score gave West Monroe a 21-7 lead.
West Monroe's last score came when Scott Love intercepted the ball, giving the Rebels 1st and ten on Acadiana's 43. Six plays later, Goodin ran it in from the 32 out to put West Monroe up 28-7.
